Jarden Shares Workplace with Foster ChildrenBoca Raton, FL- On Thursday, April 23 thousands of children across the nation set off to work with their parents for National Take Your Child to Work Day. Sixteen foster children from SOS Children’s Village shared in this amazing experience for the first time thanks to the care and compassion of Jarden Consumer Solutions in Boca Raton, Take Your Children to Work day encourages girls and boys across the country to dream without limitations and to think imaginatively about their family, work, and community. For no one is this idea more vital, than for a foster child. “Restoring our children’s sense of family and home is at the core of everything we do at SOS,” says SOS Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Zirulnick. “A parent to take each of our kids to work is one of the few things that our Village staff cannot provide. We are thrilled that our friends at Jarden have once again reached out to our kids and offered them this essential childhood experience.” Bright and early Thursday morning three cars from the Village arrived at the Jarden’s front door and the teens checked in for a day of exploring, learning and fun with employees, many of whom also brought their own children to work. After a tour of the company, the teens teamed up with a Jarden employee for some one on one time to learn about different careers. The Creative Services department planned a special project for visitors Selenia and Vanessa, both age 14, to teach the girls about all of the different tasks the department does. The girls tapped into their own creativity to decorate Oster Toasters and Mr. Coffee Makers, two of Jarden’s biggest brands, with markers and rhinestones. When their creation was complete, the girls worked with the Creative Team to brand their new product. The first stop was photography to take pictures of their custom-made products. Then it was off to the computers to design personalized boxes for the appliances. At the end of the day, the girls took their new appliances home in the custom packaging to show off to their housemates. SOS Children’s Villages - Florida is home to up to seventy foster children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The Village setting allows brothers and sisters, often separated in foster care, to be reunited. The nurturing and support that SOS provides prepares them to be productive members of society. SOS is accredited by the Council of Accreditation, recognizing its continuing high standards and the quality services provided to foster children. The Florida Village is part of a worldwide network of over 450 villages caring for disadvantaged children.
