Margie Bruszer, CEO, Announces Her Retirement

SOS is a neighborhood that provides homes for brothers and sisters who are in the foster care system. The unique Village provides for families of children to reunite in typical single-family homes, while benefiting from comprehensive services like on-site health care, therapy, life skills, and tutoring.

Says Margie, “I know that our wonderful Board of Directors, awesome staff and caring volunteers, will continue to empower each SOS child with the confidence and tools necessary to succeed in life, and to give them the gifts of healing, hope, and home.”

During her tenure at SOS, Margie has guided the relatively young organization through a significant evolution, which featured added services and a growing donor support base, assuring continued safety and stability for its children. Helping the children deal with past traumas, learn appropriate values, believe in themselves and choose paths that will help them reach their potential, has been a focus in the care and nurturing for every SOS child during her time as CEO.

“These children are so full of promise,” remarked Margie, whose office is adorned with photographs and memories of the boys and girls who have called the Village home over the years.

Since she came to SOS, Margie has followed the progress of the children who have called the Village home since it first opened fifteen years ago. Over 60 SOS kids have turned 18 and left the SOS nest. To provide these young adults with needed resources, as well as a continuing sense of family, SOS developed the first After Care program in Broward County.

Speaking on behalf of the entire Board, SOS Board President Barrington Russell stated, “We have been blessed by the knowledge, dedication, and passion that Margie has brought to the SOS family for nearly a decade. She is leaving such a magnificent and rich legacy for our children, staff, donors and volunteers. We are fully confident that Jeffrey Zirulnick will build upon this foundation as we continue to create brighter futures for our boys and girls.”
